Glasgow Comedy Festival Preview: James Acaster

This year’s eagerly-awaited festival kicks off today and runs until April 1st. On Saturday 17th March, James Acaster will be performing his critically acclaimed show, Amongst Other Things, which he debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with great success. James has supported pun machine Milton Jones on tour and made appearances on Russell Howard’s Good News and Dave’s One Night Stand, so he’s one to look out for.

We’ll be reviewing this Saturday’s show, so watch this space. Until then, here’s a quick Q&A with the man himself to whet your appetites…

What can we expect from the show?
A gangly young man from Kettering talking about little things that he likes and pretending to look at donuts.

This is your first tour, what are you most excited about?
Service station cuisine and hotel wi-fi.

How did you get into comedy?
Through being a show off and needing a way to fill my days. Plus my band split up so I didn’t have much going on at the time.

What do you do to prepare for a gig, any warm up habits?
I sit in a corner and catch up on my text messages, pretending like I don’t have to do a show in a few minutes.

What has been your most interesting/funny/bizarre gig experience thus far?
A 4 yr old child got on stage and did his version of beat boxing once, he basically made a sound like a pig oinking for nearly 7 minutes.

What did you want to be when you were young?
A rapper and a vet. Simultaneously.

If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
The man who often gave his seat up on buses then let himself down by looking around proudly to see if anyone had noticed.

What are your hobbies/interests?
I play the drums, drink tea from massive mugs and watch way too many film/box-sets. I also like water parks.
