When I undertook this review, I did so with childish glee, wanting to rip it to shreds. It’s with a heavy heart that I write I cannot conscionably do this, as it’s actually alright. I’m not a fan of ‘The Bieb’ and it’s only with a slight irony that I bear Nicki Minaj (yet I can still rap pretty much anything she’s ever done word for word – find me when drunk and I’ll do a rendition for you).
This has a solid dance beat that’d go down well in any club, and now his voice has broken, JB is actually bearable. He sings about the usual thing of finding love in a club, which is all innocent and lovely (if naive) but then Minaj ruins this innocence with the lyrics “Justin Bieber/ You know I’m gonna hit him with the ether/Buns out, wiener/But I gotta keep an eye out for Selena”. That sounds like date rape to me, Miss Minaj.
Then again, didn’t he once say that ‘everything happens for a reason’ when asked if he thought abortion was okay if it was the result of rape? Maybe Nicki was simply making a dig at his ridiculous views with these lyrics. Well, this escalated quickly, didn’t it?
