Refusing to lay his performing career to rest, Gerard Way has re-invented himself again, and you have to admire him for the resilience.
As frontman to the band that arguably created the emo fad, at least finalised the beast it turned out to be, he will always be the singer ‘from that band’ but Hesitant Alien is far from grasping onto the final entrails of fading success.
It’s not an album that flows nicely, makes good songs to dance to or something you can even have on in the background. You have to really listen to this album to engage with it. It’s more suitable for the point in a hangover where you just need to blast the shit from your head and pull yourself together.
Way has once again proved his ability to develop with the zeitgeist, with his voice still as raw and passionate as ever. This one is for the ex-emo, whose music taste has grown with the times but is still so inclined to a bit of guitar tinted emotion.
