Bare Bums Cure Blood Cancer

Ahh, the festive season. Time to eat, drink and get naked.

Wait. What? Well, so was the case for a bunch of Glasgow Uni students who got their kit off for Glasgow Marrow’s naked sports calendar this winter.

Glasgow Marrow is Glasgow’s student branch of Anthoy Nolan, a charity committed to curing blood cancer and other blood disorders. Funds raised from selling the calendars will be donated to the charity, who match individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to those who need them for transplants. Through their work, they now help three people every day find a match that will help save their life.

Glasgow Marrow’s role gives students the opportunity to join the register of bone marrow donors by holding clinics at the university and other locations throughout the academic year. They also raise awareness about bone marrow donation, and fundraise for Anthony Nolan through running various events across campus – like their naked calendar.

The Glasgow Uni sports teams involved in the calendar include both the men and women’s hockey teams, American football, cheerleading, men’s rugby, and Muay Thai, as well as those on the Marrow committee stripping down for a photo of their own. That’s a lot of bare bums and tums.

Calendars can be purchased here, with all proceeds going to the charity. Glasgow Marrow will also be holding a recruitment event in the QMU cloakroom on the 28th and 29th of November, where students can sign up to join the stem cell register. More information about the charity can be found on their website.
