Uni can be really stressful at this time of year – after a summer of no deadlines and plenty of time to chill, it can be hard to adjust to the new semester starting. However, being back at uni doesn’t mean you should forget about looking after yourself; it’s important to take care of yourself and take some down time now that the workload is increasing. With that in mind, here are a few of our favourite self-care tips for you to try:
1.Swap a night out for a night in. Don’t force yourself to socialise if you don’t really want to – you don’t need to have an excuse for not going out! “I don’t feel like it” is a perfectly valid reason for missing a night out, and it’s important make sure you don’t burn out.
- Alternatively, head outside for a walk and let the fresh air clear your head. It’s not healthy to stay cooped up indoors all the time, and Glasgow can look really beautiful around this time of year.
- Online shopping is always therapeutic! You don’t have to spend loads of money – or any at all, in fact. Sometimes scrolling through endless streams of clothes is relaxing in itself. I always bookmark stuff for my wish list so that if I ever have money or a reason to buy it, I can go back and treat myself.
- Don’t feel guilty for binging on Netflix – everyone needs a break from work sometimes, and forcing yourself to work can often be counterproductive. Every so often you have to swap the library for your bed, and that’s ok. However, to stop yourself falling down the Netflix rabbit hole, maybe choose a show that only releases weekly episodes…
- Cook yourself a tasty, comforting meal, or order your favourite take away if you don’t feel like cooking. Eating food you enjoy is an act of self-love, and also important for your well-being, so don’t forget to nourish yourself. If you’re stressed out with deadlines and you aren’t eating well you’re more likely to get sick too, so remember to throw some greens in there too!
