What’s the Deal with Sex Toys?

[Content warning: sexual references]

The world of sex is a tricky one to navigate. There is still a lot of taboo around sex in older generations, while people in their early 20’s are becoming more and more open about discussing the topic, it seems to come with an air of naughtiness whenever the subject is brought up. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the sharing of gory details among friends. Hell, I’ve had friends go into laborious detail about what goes on in their bedroom. While it appears as though the younger generations are becoming more and more open to the discussion of sex, there still remains a huge elephant in the room when it comes to one element of the sex world – sex toys.

Sex toys are a gift from the manufacturing gods. Not only do they provide pleasure for you and your partner, sexologist have gone on record stating that the use of toys and aids in the bedroom can improve performance and enjoyment. I’m not just talking about flesh lights and dildos here, folks. Take the simple vibrator, for example. It’s no secret that the female orgasm is not always achieved during intercourse. A study showed that 75% of those with vaginas do not orgasm during sex without manual stimulation but the introduction of a vibrator increases your chances of orgasm astronomically.

But sex toys aren’t just for use on people with vaginas. A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine stated that 1 in 4 suffer from erectile dysfunction. The addition of a cock ring or a penis pump can improve your endurance and allow you to please your partner without feeling insecure. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of here. If vaginas can have vibrators, you’re damn right you can have a fleshlight for your penis. The stigma surrounding the use of masturbatory aids is deep rooted in our society and, frankly, its obscene. We all need to get our rocks off and using a device to help with that should not be shameful in any way.

My message to you all, regardless of gender or sexual orientation is to get out there and give sex toys a try before you decide they’re ‘weird’ and ‘dirty’. What’s even better? Lovehoney, the UK’s most popular online store for sex toys have a 20% student discount. Spice up your sex life and save money at the same time. It really is that easy.
